Andy: Weekend two was another absolute whirlwind, no matter if your teams won or lost. We saw everything from lopsided blowouts to heart-stoppers that came down to the final tenths of a second. In the Round of 16, Arizona and Illinois looked unstoppable in their wins over Arkansas and Houston, while Purdue and UConn had to fight tooth and nail just to survive.

Leesl: And can we talk about Nebraska? I’ve seen a lot of basketball, but playing with only four players on the floor after a timeout while trailing by three in the final minute? That is a level of “Madness” I didn’t have on my bingo card!

Andy: The Elite Eight didn’t let up, either. We saw three massive second-half comebacks by Illinois, Arizona, and UConn. That UConn game was particularly shocking—trailing Duke by 15 at the half only to outscore them by 16 in the second? That’s how dreams (and brackets) die.

Whose Bracket is Better? 🏀

The first two rounds were a close race, but the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight were a total wrecking ball. Here is a look at the statistical carnage left in the wake of the Madness.

Leesl’s “Houston, We Have a Problem” Bracket! 🚀

Bracket Sadness: Activated! I thought the Cougars were cleared for takeoff all the way to the title, but instead, they picked the worst day of the season to stay on the launchpad. The Illini flipped the script on one of the nation’s toughest defenses, using a 17-0 run to force Houston to play from behind. That was the longest scoring run allowed by Houston in the last eight seasons.

Like Andy, I still have two teams in the Final Four thanks to UConn’s miraculous comeback against Duke. But unlike Andy, my bracket has been thoroughly busted by those Fighting Illini. And I have to say it—a Texas team should never lose to a team from Illinois, right Andy? But I’m still in it for the snacks, the company, and the fact that my old bracket makes a surprisingly good coaster! 🍺

Andy’s “Arizona Rising” Bracket! 🌵

My Wildcats are absolutely on fire! 🔥 If you’re looking for the most dominant team in the tournament, you’re looking at Tucson. Arizona has been on a tear, winning every single game so far by at least 12 points. It’s been the kind of stress-free basketball every fan dreams of—easy wins over Arkansas and Purdue were exactly what the coach (and my blood pressure) needed.

While the Wildcats are cruising, the rest of my bracket is a little more… “scenic.” Losing Houston and Michigan State in the Sweet 16 was a tough blow to my points total, but having Michigan pull off two solid wins to join Arizona in the Final Four keeps me in the game.

I’ll be honest: my bracket is definitely a little shaky right now. I need Arizona to win it all to stay at the top of the household standings, and while they look unstoppable, I know the Final Four is where the real “Madness” begins. Go Cats! 🐾

Meanwhile, No. 2 UConn is looking to cement a dynasty with a back-to-back title run, and No. 3 Illinois enters tonight with the nation’s most productive offense.
