Some couples bond over cooking, travel, or binge-watching reality TV. We bond by trying to absolutely destroy each other in sports trivia, brackets, and fantasy standings. Between burning rubber in NASCAR, picking upsets in college football, and surviving the marathon of a baseball season, our household is the ultimate sports rivalry.

Welcome back to Pitstops, Pigskins, and Pitching Meltdowns!

1. Pit Stops: Bumping and Banging at Bristol 🏎️

Andy: I’m convinced the St. Louis playoff race wasn’t a sporting event—it was a demolition derby designed specifically to ruin my weekend. We saw 18 cautions for 87 laps, meaning a staggering 35% of the race was spent riding around behind a pace car. While it’s a miracle 26 of the 36 cars finished on the lead lap, it’s an even bigger miracle that I can hear myself think over Leesl’s constant gloating about this leaderboard gap. Kyle Larson managed to dodge the carnage to take the checkered flag for my squad, Windy City Racin’, but it still wasn’t enough to catch her. Now, I’m counting down the hours until the green flag drops at the iconic Bristol night race so my guys can get me some real redemption.

Leesl: You can celebrate Kyle Larson’s little trophy all you want, Andy, but a shiny race win doesn’t change the view from the top of the standings! I honestly didn’t think that St. Louis race would ever end with the absolute mess out there. Watching Zane Smith, Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, and Christopher Bell take massive day-ending hits was brutal, but I was thrilled to watch five of my drivers finish in the top 10, anchored by Logano. You might be racking up individual driver wins in these playoffs, but my regular-season points championship means Lone Star Racin’ is still holding the real lead.

Andy: Keep talking, Leesl. Tonight’s race is pure magic under the lights on the high banks of Bristol, and it’s the perfect place for a comeback. The tight track geometry forces door-to-door racing at blistering speeds, leaving literally zero margin for error. Tempers run hot, and drivers easily get caught up in multiple wrecks with the exact same rival—which feels like a metaphor for our living room right now. Windy City Racin’ needs a massive night to cut into that lead, and fortunately, my lineup of Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, and Chase Elliott have stellar track histories here. I’m sticking with Larson to go back-to-back and silence the Lone Star bragging.

Leesl: I really can’t hear you over the sound of my 109-point lead, Andy! But we do agree about one thing: there’s nothing quite like Bristol & the night race atmosphere! And tonight carries extra emotion too, with Ty Gibbs running that iconic throwback Kyle Busch M&M’s scheme. With Gibbs, Hamlin, and Briscoe all boasting incredible past success at Bristol, my confidence is sky-high. But I believe with Ty Gibbs winning here in the spring, he’s going to repeat tonight in that legendary M&M’s car and extend the lead of Lone Star Racin’.

📊 Current Fantasy Scoreboard: Leesl: 16,849 pts | Andy: 16,740 pts (Margin: +109 Lone Star Racin’)

2. Pitching Meltdowns: Fighting for the Wild Card ⚾

Andy’s Take (Chicago White Sox)

With only 8 games left in the regular season, I am thoroughly convinced my bullpen has a personal vendetta against my sanity. Late-inning blown leads have mutated from a bad habit into an all-too-familiar nightly horror show. Chicago didn’t just tumble out of first place; we practically took a skydive without a parachute. Now, we are reduced to fighting tooth and nail just to claw into the final Wild Card spot. If our relievers don’t start closing out games instead of giving them away, I’m not going to survive September without a medical intervention.

Leesl’s Take (Texas Rangers)

Honestly, Andy, it’s a race to the bottom because who even knows which of our teams has the shakiest pitching staff right now? Half the league is wobbling hard into September, and Texas is currently sitting on the outside looking in, desperately searching for a strike zone. But can you imagine—if our teams can somehow survive these final 8 games, we might end up facing off in Round 1 of the playoffs! A Texas vs. Chicago postseason matchup would be absolutely perfect… though I might need to have a team of doctors on standby for your sanity.

3. Pigskins: Battling Against the Spread 🏈

Andy: Beyond our living room TV battles, Leesl and I also go head-to-head each week in our college football pick ’em. The rules are simple: we choose 5 games against the spread, and the loser has to face the music. Week 1 was an absolute disaster for me; only Alabama managed to cover, leaving me at a dismal 1-4. Week 2 was slightly kinder at 3-2, though my unwavering loyalty to Oregon cost me dearly yet again. At least ‘Bama came through alongside Western Michigan and Iowa State. Still, after two weeks, I’m sitting at a mediocre 4-6 overall and already playing catch-up. I desperately need a massive Week 3 to turn things around.

Leesl: I have to hand it to you, Andy—you put a lot of energy into choosing teams that completely let you down! Week 1 was pure joy for me, watching you sweat out every single game while I happily stacked up 4 wins. Week 2 went a bit better for your squad, but honestly, what were you thinking sticking with Oregon? And did you really think Ole Miss was going to cover a massive 45-point spread right before LSU comes to town? I happily took those underdog points and ran. Starting the season 6-4 feels fantastic, and I have no plans of letting go of this lead.

📊Current Pick ‘Em Standings

  • Leesl: 6–4
  • Andy: 4–6
  • Current Gap: Leesl leads by 2 games

Grab a drink and stay tuned!

After a brutal weekend of tracking point spreads, checkered flags, and late-inning bullpen collapses, we definitely need a drink to lower the room temperature.
