Our First Weekend Recap!

Andy: After four days of absolute madness, we are officially down to the Sweet 16. It’s been a weekend of extremes—from Florida’s 59-point blowout in round one to Duke nearly getting sent home by a 16-seed before pulling a rabbit out of their hat. 🪄

Leesl: And don’t forget the heart-stoppers! High Point beating Wisconsin in round one was the “Cinderella moment” of the year. Chase Johnston hitting the game-winner—his first 2-pointer of the entire season—to sink a 5-seed? That is exactly why we love this tournament—and that is exactly why I love some of my picks!

Andy: Leesl can talk about High Point all she wants, but how does a proud Texas girl not pick the Longhorns to win a single game? And here they are, sitting in the Sweet 16 after taking down BYU and Gonzaga! I think she has some ‘splainin’ to do!

Whose Bracket is Better? 🏀

We both put up strong numbers through the first two rounds. We ended the first round in a dead heat, and the second round remained incredibly close.

Okay, Andy, here is my reasonin’ – while it hurts that I didn’t pick Texas my head was looking at the facts. We entered as an 11-seed out of the SEC and had to play our way in through the First Four just to get a seat at the table. I wasn’t betting against their heart; I was just playing the odds of a brutal West Region path! But seeing the Horns keep dancing is a trade-off I’ll gladly take. My champion, Houston, rolled through the weekend, and having my entire Final Four intact is a huge win. I just need UConn and Iowa State to keep it rolling so I can stay in the driver’s seat!

Andy’s “Arizona Rising” Bracket! 🌵

While Leesl deals with her Texas-sized dilemma, my predicted champion, Arizona, had the kind of stress-free weekend every coach dreams of. But don’t let the 12-4 second round fool you—the stress is coming. I’m looking at a Sweet 16 where my Duke pick looks shaky at best, and Michigan is running head-first into an Alabama team that just dismantled Texas Tech. I’ve still got all my Final Four picks alive, which is the only reason my Bust Meter hasn’t spiked yet. It’s a slim lead, and with three head-to-head differences between us this weekend, things are about to get very interesting in this house.

The Official Household Bust Meter!

The Current Stakes:

The first weekend is in the books, and usually, by the time the Sweet 16 rolls around, at least one of us is staring at a busted bracket and a 100% reading on the meter.

But not this year!

Since we both still have our National Champions and our entire Final Four rosters active, the needle is staying at a cool 0% for both of us. It’s the calm before the storm. But with three head-to-head differences coming up in the next 48 hours, don’t expect this peace to last!

We did it! Through the chaos and the upsets, our brackets are still intact! While the ‘pros’ (sorry Dickie V) are tearing up their spreadsheets because they loved Florida, Andy and I are cruising into the Sweet 16. Can we keep the streak going?
