One point! That’s all that separated Lone Star Racin’ and Windy City Racin’ this week. But while the points were close, the tempers were anything but. From shredded tires at Darlington to a looming showdown at the Paperclip, here’s where we stand:

šŸ The Tale of the Tape: Darlington Recap!

The CategoryLone Star Racin’ (Leesl)Windy City Racin’ (Andy)
The ResultšŸ† Historical: 4 wins in 6 races for Reddick.šŸ“ˆ Efficiency: A 1-point “technical” win.
The Drama🧨 Explosive: Reddick vs. Buescher (The Fight).šŸ› ļø Frustrating: Mechanical woes for Bell & Larson.
The “Tire” FactoršŸ›ž Shredded: Survived the Darlington cheese-grater.šŸ“‰ Steady: Managed the fall-off to stay in the Top 10.
Martinsville GoalšŸ•’ Grandfather Clock: Hamlin’s house, our rules.🌭 The Comeback: Close the 195-point gap.

The Post-Race Paint: Survival at the Lady in Black

Andy: Look, a win is a win. Windy City Racin’ needed to bounce back at ā€œThe Track Too Tough to Tame,ā€ and we did—even if it was by a razor-thin one-point margin. We did it a driver down, which shows the depth of this roster. Keselowski was a monster, leading 142 laps to grab 2nd place. If Larson and Christopher Bell hadn’t run into their respective “days of problems,” that one-point lead would have been a blowout.

Leesl: Andy, you can call it a “decisive” one-point win all you want, but Lone Star Racin’ is the one making history. Tyler Reddick is on a tear that puts him in the same breath as Earnhardt Sr. and Jeff Gordon—4 wins in 6 races? That’s legendary. And he did it the hard way: no cool suit, no fans, just pure grit and a failing battery.

The “Tires & Tempers” Factor:

It wasn’t just the heat inside Reddick’s car; it was the heat on the track. Darlington’s surface is like a cheese grater for Goodyear tires, and everyone felt the fall-off. But the real “temper” moment was the late-race contact between Chris Buescher and Reddick. Seeing Buescher—usually the “nice guy” of the garage—get that heated post-race tells you everything you need to know about how much these wins mean. We took some hits with Logano and Wallace finishing 33rd and 34th, but when you have a driver like Reddick carrying the banner, the momentum is still firmly in Texas.

Short Track Showdown: Hunt for the Grandfather Clock

Andy: If you think Darlington was tight, welcome to the “Paperclip.” Martinsville is NASCAR’s oldest track, and at just over half a mile, it’s basically a contact sport. It’s famous for the Ridgeway Grandfather Clock trophy—which, for 2026, actually has a new local manufacturer—and those legendary $2 hot dogs. My strategy? I’m looking at Larson, Blaney, and Elliott. They’ve all found the “light switch” here before. With the cars running 750 horsepower this weekend, I expect my guys to use that extra muscle to shove their way into Victory Lane and close this 195-point gap.

Leesl: You can bring the horsepower, Andy, but I’m bringing the history. This is Denny Hamlin’s house. He’s the defending spring winner and has six clocks at home for a reason—he knows how to manage brakes and tempers better than anyone on the grid. While you’re worried about catching up, I’m looking forward to watching my team celebrate next to that clock.

The Short-Track Strategy:

Martinsville is a trance. Drivers are shifting four times a lap, 400 times on Sunday, all while trying not to lose their cool when someone “bumps and runs” them into the turn. Goodyear is bringing a softer left-side tire designed for more fall-off, so the “Tires” part of our title is going to be the deciding factor in the final 50 laps.

Andy: I’m already hungry for a dog myself! One of my guys is going to be eating those “loaded” hot dogs in Victory Lane.

Leesl: Keep the napkins handy, Andy. You’ll need them to wipe away the tears when Lone Star Racin’ extends this lead even further.

1. The Final Lap

  • Andy’s Bold Prediction: Larson takes the clock; I take the hot dogs.
  • Leesl’s Final Word: Hamlin stays King of the Paperclip. Enjoy the mustard on your shirt, Andy!
  • The Number to Watch: 195. (The points gap Windy City Racin’ has to climb).

2. The Cool Down Lap

Darlington left us with shredded tires and bruised egos, but Martinsville is where the “Half Mile of Mayhem” truly takes over. Whether you’re pulling for the Lone Star dominance to continue or rooting for a Windy City comeback, one thing is certain: someone is going home with a clock, and everyone else is going home with a headache.
