Our Opening Day Tradition! 🌭
Andy: The grill is preheated, the cooler is stocked, and Spring Training has finally broken. We are officially ready to kick off the 2026 season. Every team starts today claiming the goal is a World Series ring, but let’s be real—that’s only a reality for maybe five or seven clubs.
I have no illusions of my White Sox making the playoffs yet. After winning 41 games in ’24 and 60 last year, I’m just looking for more improvement. 📈 We have one of the youngest rosters in the league, and if our young starters like Shane Smith and Davis Martin take that next step, I see us jumping to 75 wins. Maybe my glasses are a little rose-colored for late March, but hope is free on Opening Day!
Leesl: Andy, why the “South Side Skepticism” before the first pitch is even thrown? You know it’s a 162-game marathon and anything can happen! I’m sitting here on our patio in full Ranger’s gear and I’m nothing but optimistic. 🤠🌟
New Leadership & The Youth Movement:
Leesl: My Rangers didn’t just tweak the edges; we hit the reset button. Bringing in Skip Schumaker¹ as manager felt like a lightning bolt to the dugout. ⚡️ He’s already changed the vibe, and by adding MacKenzie Gore to the rotation and Brandon Nimmo to center field, we aren’t just looking for “improvement.” We want the crown back! 👑 The key is just health. If Jung, Carter, and Seager stay off the IL, I see 88 wins and a serious run at the division title.
Andy: It’s a “Pedigree vs. Potential” argument, isn’t it? You’ve got the proven vets, and I’m over here watching Colson Montgomery and Edgar Quero—the “kids” who showed real grit after the All-Star break last season. I’m also incredibly interested to see how Munetaka Murakami handles the middle of our order. If that young core finds its rhythm early, 75 wins might even be on the low side. A quick start is everything for a team this young.
The Closer: Let the Games Begin!
Andy: Well, Leesl, our teams are in two very different positions. Your Rangers will likely be challenging for the playoffs; your pitching staff and hitters are in the top half of the league, so those 7 extra wins you’re calling for are definitely doable. For my Sox, I’m just excited to watch the rebuild take shape. GO SOX! ⚫️⚪️
Leesl: Andy, as you always tell me, “Don’t panic early; it’s a long season.” 🍻 Another 15-game improvement for the Sox is a tall order, but I love the confidence. I’m ready for the Rangers to prove they belong back in the postseason. Houston and Seattle are tough, but I like our chances. GO RANGERS! 🔴🔵
Andy: The tradition stands. The dogs are off the grill, the sun is out, and for the next 24 hours, we’re both 0-0 and tied for first place. 🏆
The Opening Day Main Slate (Thursday, March 26)
| Team | Opponent | Time (CT) | Probable Starter |
| White Sox | @ Milwaukee | 1:10 PM | Shane Smith (R) |
| Rangers | @ Philadelphia | 3:15 PM | Nathan Eovaldi (R) |
¹The Mound Visit: If you haven’t seen the video of the Texas Ranger’s Manager Skip Schumaker surprising Carter Baumler with his roster spot in the middle of a game, do yourself a favor and go find it. The coolest part of that replay is that Carter actually thought he was being pulled from the game. When Skip called the whole infield in, everyone else knew except Carter. After the huddle broke, he was so emotional he almost forgot he had to keep pitching—but then he went out and struck out the next batter with a 97-mph fastball. That’s the type of leadership that motivates a team to go above and beyond!
