Welcome back to our Full Flight NBA Report. Whether you’ve been following us or just joining for the first time, we’re glad you’re here.

I’m Leesl, and along with Andy, we’re here to break down the noise of the NBA season. Every week, we take a “3-2-1” approach to the league: three national stories we’re watching, two home-team deep dives, and one hot topic that could land us in a bit of trouble. So, pull up a chair and let’s get into it!

The NBA landscape is undergoing a massive transformation as we head into the All-Star break. This week, we’re witnessing a changing of the guard in the West, where the young Spurs have surged into the #2 seed behind a historic run from Stephon Castle; meanwhile, the total deconstruction of the Bulls and Mavs at the trade deadline has sent shockwaves through the league’s basement as teams pivot toward the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes. Let’s dive into the report! 📈

The Brew View

…three league wide stories we’re sampling this week!

Game of the Week Review: Denver @ New York. This one absolutely lived up to the hype. The Knicks outlasted the Nuggets 134-127 in a double-OT thriller to push their winning streak to eight. While New York controlled the pace for most of the night, they could never quite shake Denver, with their lead never crossing into double digits.

  • The Gotham Duo: Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns were relentless, combining for 66 points, 20 boards, and 10 assists.
  • The Joker’s Hand: Nikola Jokic was a titan as usual, turning in a 30-14-10 triple-double, while Jamal Murray exploded for 39.

The deciding factor? Efficiency. The Knicks shot a blistering 50% from the floor, while the Nuggets struggled at 40% overall and a freezing 26% from deep. With both teams sitting at the #3 seed in their respective conferences, this felt like a legitimate NBA Finals preview.

Game of the Week Preview: 2026 NBA All-Star Game. 🌟 Clear your schedule for Sunday, February 15th at the Intuit Dome in LA. The league is ditching the old script for a high-stakes USA vs. World round-robin tournament.

  • The Format: Two U.S. teams and one International squad will play three 12-minute games.
  • The Stakes: The top two teams by record (or point differential tiebreaker) advance to a fourth championship game.
  • The Vibe: Historically, “defense” is a foreign concept here. Expect a track meet where the goal is to score early and often. If you like highlight reels and zero resistance at the rim, this is your Super Bowl.

Featured Player: Stephon Castle (Spurs). 🏰 The Spurs are the hottest team in the West, sitting at the #2 seed and a perfect 5-0 in February. Stephon Castle is a massive reason why. Despite a minor injury scare this week, he averaged 18 points and 7 assists, highlighted by a massive 40-point triple-double against Dallas. In just his second season, Castle’s growth is staggering—he and Victor Wembanyama look like the league’s next terrifying dynasty.

The Twin Taps

…two teams in a side-by-side pour – our Mavs & Bulls!

Tap 1: Mavs Update: The AD Era is Over! 🐎

Dallas fans are ready to fast-forward to the lottery. Currently mired in an 8-game losing streak and a dismal 5-17 road record, the Mavs finally pulled the trigger on a rebuild by trading Anthony Davis to the Wizards. ✈️🏛️

In return, they’re stockpiling for the future with expiring contracts and five total draft picks. The remaining 29 games are about protecting Cooper Flagg, evaluating the young core, and scouting for June.

Tap 2: Bulls Update: The Great Deconstruction! 🐂

Things are equally grim (and yet, hopeful?) in Chicago. The Bulls have dropped 9 of 10 and clearly have their sights set on the top of the draft. At the deadline, they sent out 8 players in a flurry of 7 trades. While it looks like a fire sale, they walked away with two 1st-rounders, two 2nd-rounders, and $35 million in cap space for the summer. After years of play-in mediocrity, the front office is finally trying something different. Let’s hope the “total rebuild” actually sticks this time.

The Chaser

…one high-proof hot take to finish the round!

Weekly Topic: What is your favorite part of All-Star Weekend?

Andy: Give me the Rising Stars game. 🚀 With the new 3-team format, it’s the best way to see the “hidden” gems of the league. I’m hyped to see Alex Sarr (Wizards), Derik Queen (Pelicans), and Donovan Clingan (Blazers). These guys are the future, and since they play for teams rarely on national TV, this is our best chance to see them shine on a big stage.

Leesl: Andy, that’s a snooze fest. 🥱 I’m here for the 3-Point Contest! Even with Steph Curry sidelined, we’ve got Mitchell, Booker, and Maxey, plus the rookie sensation Kon Knueppel from Charlotte. It’s 60 seconds of pure adrenaline—make your shots or go home. Nothing beats that pressure.
