When the green flag dropped, the threat of incoming bad weather turned the Coca-Cola 600 into an absolute pressure cooker. Drivers scrambled frantically for track position, knowing the sky could open up at any minute. That ultra-aggressive, tight racing triggered early wrecks that completely ruined the nights for Connor Zilisch, Austin Cindric, Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, and Chase Briscoe.

Ultimately, the weather did shorten the race, but not before a brilliant, gutsy call by crew chief Ryan Sparks. By opting for just two tires on the final pit stop, he put Daniel Suárez in position to hold off Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin for a highly emotional victory. In a poetic twist of fate, Suárez’s big break in NASCAR came back in 2015 when he drove for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series. Somewhere, Rowdy was absolutely smiling.

But while the fans are ready to party, this 1.33-mile, D-shaped concrete oval is a unique beast that presents a massive challenge for drivers and crew chiefs. The concrete surface creates distinct grip changes as the track cools down at night, and severe tire wear will thoroughly test a driver’s patience during long, green-flag runs. Everyone out there is desperate to survive the concrete jungle and take home that custom-painted Gibson Les Paul guitar in victory lane.

Leesl: A grueling test of patience for a gorgeous Gibson guitar? That suits Lone Star Racin’ perfectly! We are an experienced, patient group that thrives on tracks that require expert tire management.
