After a peaceful Easter break, the engines are roaring back to life! But while the drivers were resting, the rivalry in our living room was just simmering. We are moving from the “Paperclip” of Martinsville to the high-banked intensity of the high-country, and the points gap is starting to look as steep as those Tennessee turns.
Martinsville Recap: Who Really Won the Paperclip? 🏁
Andy: It’s a bit of a “good news, bad news” situation for Windy City Racin’. The good news? I’m finally back in Victory Lane! Chase Elliott took the checkered flag thanks to a brillant pit strategy, giving my team the individual race win I’ve been waiting for. The bad news? My short-handed squad still struggled with the math. While Chase was celebrating, bad days by Zilisch and Buescher meant I “only” lost the total points battle by 48. I’ll take the trophy, but I’ve got some ground to make up in the standings!
Leesl: Andy, you can keep your single trophy—I’ll keep the points! While you’re celebrating Chase’s win, let’s be real: that was a total strategy gamble that just happened to pay off. Lone Star Racin’ dominated the field the old-fashioned way, placing seven drivers in the top 16. Even with Denny’s late-race wheel issue slowing him down, my team proved that consistency is what wins championships. You might have had the winner, but I walked away with a 48-point victory for the week, extending my overall lead to 243. The break was nice, but my team is still the team to beat as we head to Tennessee!
The Last Great Colosseum: The High-Banked Grind! 🏟️
Andy: We are headed to one of the most iconic stops on the circuit: Bristol Motor Speedway. This .533-mile oval is a “theatre of speed,” famous for close-quarters racing, short tempers, and constant cautions. At Bristol, the banking is so steep and the G-forces so high that one small mistake doesn’t just ruin your lap—it usually ends your day.
I love watching 500 laps of chaos here. To get back in the hunt, I need a massive weekend, and I think I have the roster to do it. Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, and Brad Keselowski all have the “pedigree” for this track. Plus, I finally get a BONUS: Alex Bowman is back in the car! No more playing short-handed; I finally have a full team to start climbing back into contention in Thunder Valley.
Leesl: You need pure skill to survive Bristol, not the “luck” we saw at Martinsville. With a lineup featuring Briscoe, Hamlin, Byron, and Logano, I have plenty of drivers who know exactly how to navigate these banks. Honestly, I’m just glad Bowman is back so I don’t have to hear about your “short-handed” team every week! Now that we’re on an even playing field, I’m looking forward to extending my lead with no excuses.
The Weather & Wear Alert 🌡️
Keep an eye on the track temperature tomorrow—it’s expected to hit 80°F, and with Goodyear debuting a brand-new tire setup, this race might turn into a “tire management” game rather than a flat-out sprint. Who can save their rubber for the final 50 laps?
Who Takes the Gladiator Sword? ⚔️
At Bristol, the winner doesn’t just get a trophy; they get a Spartan-style gladiator sword. Here is who we think will be wielding the steel on Sunday:
- Andy’s Pick: Christopher Bell. He’s been knocking on the door all year with three Top-5 finishes. He just won the Xfinity race here today, so he clearly has the rhythm of the track down. I think he finally breaks through for his first Cup win of the season tomorrow.
- Leesl’s Pick: Tyler Reddick. My 45 car is leading the 2026 Cup standings for a reason, and he’s been the most consistent driver on the circuit all year. With the thermometer hitting 80°F tomorrow, the concrete is going to be slick. Reddick can find grip where other drivers can’t, and I think his high-line heroics will be exactly what it takes to bring home that Gladiator Sword.
