Leesl: After the neon-charged rush of Las Vegas and the Bellagio, checking into the Hilton Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego was like hitting the reset button. The vibe is instantly more relaxed—it’s sophisticated, but with a surprising, quirky secret!

I was immediately fascinated by all the rabbit decor and learned it was because before all the development the area was known as “Rabbitville” because all of the rabbits that inhabited the area before the development of the city center.

The decor design is youthful and playful, featuring floppy-eared graphics, shadow art, custom-shaped mirrors, and bunny puns throughout.

Visiting this hotel you instantly experience a fun and energetic atmosphere. And, the area is fill of activities – while we were there they had the “cocktail crawl”!

Andy: The Gaslamp Quarter is just the type of place we love to visit – it is that historic downtown core filled with shops, restaurants, and entertainment, making it easy to explore on foot.

Leesl: We wandered into the Rockin’ Baja Lobster – this was a fun, festive Mexican-style seafood restaurant. I loved the bright, colorful and rustic aesthetic. The menu was as much fun to read as hanging out – just about everything is served as a “Baja Bucket” overflowing with lobster, shrimp and crab. We settled in to watch some hockey and enjoy Taco Tuesday!

Andy: The Playbook had a few rules tonight: no betting on the game, just seeing if we could finish all the food! It was a well-deserved, low stakes win.

Our next stop – Coronado Island!

Leesl: The theme for this last leg of our trip was relaxed, coastal serenity and it definitely delivered on Coronado Island. My main description is – it’s charming! What more do you have to say?

Andy: We settled in at the Beach + Taco Shack and found the perfect pint to end our trip. Coronado Brewing Co. Salty Brew Blonde Ale.

Leesl: I loved this brew – clear, golden with both a sweet and earthy note. All I needed with this was a salty rim and a slice of lime and I was good for the afternoon! My Pint Score: 4.5/5! It was absolutely the taste of “laid-back”.

Andy & Leesl: This was the perfect final chapter to our adventure. We traded the auction block strategy and the high-stakes wagers for amazing seafood, a final stellar pint by the Pacific, and the sunny decompression of San Diego. It was a trip that delivered on every level – from the horsepower of Scottsdale to the high energy of Las Vegas and finally the West Coast chill of San Diego. We are home now, but we have plenty more Pint & Playbook content coming soon! Thanks for joining us on the road!
