What makes a brewery truly great? For us, it comes down to the craft, the community and the memories made in these special places. To get started, these are three that really stood out for us recently.

First up –

Superior Bathhouse Brewery – Hot Springs, AR

If you’re looking for a brewery that’s an absolute home run, look no further than Superior Bathhouse Brewery in Hot Springs, AR. This is the only brewery located inside a U.S. National Park, and they’ve got a killer “beer bath”—4 ounce tasters of all 18 beers on tap!

Superior is a unique and historic spot, originally built as a bathhouse back in 1916. They even use the actual Hot Springs thermal water to brew their beer, which adds a cool, distinctive twist. We loved their upstairs space, which is perfect for cheering on your favorite team—especially if it’s the Razorbacks! Plus, their outdoor space is a must-visit, particularly during the annual Hot Springs Corvette Weekend.

What we drank:

It was tough to choose, but our top picks were the Spicy Ride (Jalapeño Ale) and the Beez Kneez (Honey Basil Blonde). I couldn’t get enough of the spicy ale, which starts crisp and finishes with a subtle heat. Meanwhile, Andy was a fan of the Honey Basil Blonde, a light and refreshing brew with a unique twist.

We’re already planning our next trip back to this destination, which is a great blend of mountain trails, mineral springs, beautiful architecture, and game-changing beer.

New Realm Brewing Co. – Greenville, SC

This brewery doesn’t just serve great beer and food; it pours a living, breathing history where every cheer echoes off the walls of the iconic Old Cigar Warehouse. With its perfect blend of historical charm and a lively community feel, New Realm is a place that feels bigger than its brick-and-mortar walls.

We stopped in to catch a Premier League match between Liverpool and Everton. The sight of polished wood and gleaming tap handles was a perfect backdrop for the vibrant flash of team jerseys. As a hub for the Official Liverpool Supporters Club, the energy in the room was electric—the kind of passionate crowd that makes a brewery feel more like a home stadium.

What we drank:

It was tough to choose, but our top picks were the Blackberry Smoke (American Lager) and the Hazy Like a Fox Hazy IPA. I rate the Blackberry Smoke as my number one pick. It’s a crisp, refreshing brew with a subtle malt sweetness, and how can you not enjoy a beer brewed to celebrate the southern rock band of the same name and their 21st birthday? Meanwhile, Leesl enjoyed the Hazy Like a Fox, which had a juicy, fruit-forward flavor and a bright, citrusy aroma.

The food menu also deserves a shout-out; it’s expertly designed to complement the beer list, making for a truly pleasant dining experience. With its creative beer, delicious house-made food, and a lively atmosphere that’s truly customer-centric, we can’t wait to visit New Realm again.

Against the Grain – Louisville, KY

For the serious beer lover, Against the Grain is a non-negotiable visit. This brewery is the definition of innovative and creative, truly living up to its name by going against the grain of traditional brewing. Located in a former train station, the space has a wonderfully unique vibe. Sunlight streams through large arched windows, illuminating a three-story layout with visible brewing equipment and staircases connecting the main levels. Artwork by local artists sets the tone, creating a cozy yet modern atmosphere that feels both historic and fresh.

What we drank:

That creative spirit extends to their beers and the distinctive artwork on the cans. For our top picks, I went with the A Beer (American Lager). It’s a refreshingly light-bodied and easy-to-drink brew—perfect for a warm summer day. Andy chose the Cold Ass Beer (Amber Ale), a similarly easy-drinking amber ale that really hit the spot. Both are perfect sippers for a warm summer day.

This is a casual, festive place for hanging out, watching sports, and enjoying one-of-a-kind brews. Since it’s right at Louisville Slugger Field, we’re already planning our next visit for some pre-game fun.

Whether you’re drawn to beer brewed with thermal spring water like Superior Bathhouse BreweryNew Realm Brewing Co’s lively community-focused taproom, or the unexpected flavor combinations that define Against the Grain, the common thread is a passion for crafting great beer. The best way to understand each of these spots is to experience them for yourself. Grab a friend, pull up a stool, and find your own perfect pint.
