Leesl: If you’ve spent any time with us on the blog, you already know Andy and I don’t always see eye-to-eye.

Andy: That’s a polite way of saying I’m loyal to South Side Chicago sports, Leesl’s all about her Texas teams, and our living room gets pretty loud on game days.

Leesl: Exactly. And while we actually can agree on a great beer when it hits — (check out our official Pint of the Month right here!) — handing us a four-beer flight tray is usually a guaranteed split decision.

Andy: But out of all the taprooms we’ve pulled up a stool at, there are a few rare places where we both walked out completely blown away.

Leesl: We might have picked totally different flight winners at the table, but we left agreeing on one big thing: these five breweries are worth every single mile to get there.

1. Hop & Sting Brewing Co. — Grapevine, TX 🐝

• The Vibe: The Neighborhood Backyard Spot!
• Why It Stuck With Us: There is something incredibly special about a brewery that captures a true neighborhood heartbeat. During our weekend escape to Grapevine, Hop & Sting became our instant happy place. It traded flashy pretense for a laid-back, community-centric atmosphere, delivering that rare “at-home” comfort even when you’re just one town over.
• Our Table Talk:
  • Leesl’s Pick: Miracle Wheat — velvety smooth with just enough bright citrus to make you want a second glass before you’ve even finished the first.
  • Andy’s Pick: Weisser Time — A textbook Bavarian hefeweizen. Andy was immediately sold on those bold clove and banana yeast notes.

2. Galveston Island Brewing — Galveston, TX 🌊

• The Vibe: Our Coastal Sandbox!
• Why It Stuck With Us: As North Texans, Galveston is our only real shot at the beach. Sure, the water is a little brown, but the atmosphere is absolutely unbeatable —especially at Galveston Island Brewing. It has become our absolute tradition to make this our very first stop the second we hit town. Sitting out on their huge lawn, soaking up the ocean air with a beer in hand, you completely forget about the highway miles behind you and start scheming ways to never leave.
• Our Table Talk:
  • Leesl’s Pick: Tiki Colada — bright and tropical, with just enough natural pineapple and coconut sweetness to make it feel like a vacation in a glass.
  • Andy’s Pick: Tiki Wheat — rich, wheat-forward, and crisp with subtle notes of coriander and honey that set the gold standard for Texas coastal pours.

3. Superior Bathhouse Brewery — Hot Springs, AR 🛁

• The Vibe: History on Tap!
• Why It Stuck With Us: Historic Bathhouse Row is packed with incredible sights, but Superior is always our main event. Housed in a stunningly renovated 1916 bathhouse, it’s a living piece of history and the only brewery in the world inside a U.S. National Park. They literally cool down the park’s natural 144°F thermal spring water to brew their craft beer.
• Our Table Talk:
  • Leesl’s Pick: Spicy Ride (Jalapeño Ale) — starts crisp and finishes with just the right touch of subtle warmth.
  • Andy’s Pick: Beez Kneez (Honey Basil Blonde) — light, refreshing, the sweetness of the honey provides a delicate undertone that perfectly balances the subtle, aromatic freshness of the basil.

4. New Realm Brewing Co. — Greenville, SC ⚽

• The Vibe: The Upscale Fan Clubhouse!
• Why It Stuck With Us: New Realm completely knocked it out of the park with their adaptive reuse of the historic Old Cigar Warehouse. It has this incredible architectural weight to it — all exposed brick and rich, polished wood tones. We dropped by during a Premier League match, and the taproom was absolutely buzzing with fans, creating a massive, electric atmosphere.

  • Leesl’s Pick: Blackberry Smoke American Lager — a crisp southern lager brewed in honor of the rock band’s 21st birthday.
  • Andy’s Pick: Hazy Like a Fox Hazy IPA — double dry-hopped for a juicy, tropical punch full of mango and ripe orange notes.

5. Goldwater Brewing Co. — Scottsdale, AZ 🌵

• The Vibe: The Sun-Drenched Taproom!
• Why It Stuck With Us: Tucked right into the vibrant center of Old Town Scottsdale, this family-owned gem trades flashing neon signs for an effortless indoor-outdoor flow. You can look right past your pint at the working brewhouse tanks, or head up to their patio balcony for a breeze. Between the passionate staff and the high-energy, dog-friendly atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to hide from the desert heat.

  • Leesl’s Pick: Desert Rose — Bright, refreshing, and uniquely smooth with subtle floral and fruit notes that hit just right after a day exploring Scottsdale.
  • Andy’s Pick: Birthday Suit — Bold, flavor-packed, and complex; this one completely stole the show on Andy’s side of the flight board.
