After Shane van Gisbergen mastered the technical turns of Watkins Glen last weekend to solidify his road-course dominance, the NASCAR Cup Series is switching gears from precision to brutality. The tension shifts from the curvy New York asphalt to the concrete high-banks of Delaware as the NASCAR All-Star Race makes its debut at the “Monster Mile” of Dover Motor Speedway, where a $1 million prize awaits the driver who can survive a wild new 350-lap format!

But first, let’s catch up on the road course results.

Road Course King: SVG Conquers the Glen Again! šŸ‘‘

Andy: I came into the Glen with a lot of momentum for Windy City Racin’ after winning two in a row, but that dream hit a wall pretty early. None of my drivers were really in contention, making it a very long day for my team. If the race had actually been a bowling match, maybe we would have stood a chance! The only consistent bright spot was Connor Zilisch, but even he got bit by a late-race flat tire while running 5th. All told, it was a 54-point loss for the Windy City squad.

Leesl: Andy, with the way your guys were moving, I wasn’t sure if they were actually racing or just taking a scenic tour of the Glen. Is it true they needed a GPS to help them find where they moved the finish line?

Now, my Lone Star Racin’ team wasn’t just looking pretty in the garage; they were moving forward! We needed a rebound after a tough week at home, and boy, did they deliver! Logano gave me a heart attack with a tire issue that cost him 15 laps and put him in last place, but the rest of the team more than made up for it. SVG was absolutely dominant, leading 74 laps. He made things interesting by pitting later than the field, but he ran an unbelievable final 25 laps—erasing a 30-second deficit in just 18 laps to retake the lead and win by over 7 seconds! I’m thrilled to extend my season-long lead heading into the break.

Andy: Ha! Very funny. Honestly, I think they mistook the track for a bowling alley and were just looking for the ball return! Enjoy the view from the top of the standings for now, Leesl—the “Monster” at Dover has a way of leveling the playing field.

Meeting the Monster: All-Star Stakes at Dover! šŸ‘¹

Andy: Now we shift gears to Dover Motor Speedway for the All-Star Race! There’s a reason this place is called the “Monster Mile.” Its high-banked, one-mile concrete layout is notoriously brutal on both the drivers and the equipment. If your setup is dialed in, it’s a blast; if not, the “Monster” will chew your car up and spit it out instantly.

Leesl: It’s such a massive change of pace going from the road course at the Glen to the only all-cement track on the circuit. Survival is the name of the game here over 350 laps. A perfect day can turn into a nightmare in a split second just because of someone else’s mistake.

Andy: The best part? For this year’s All-Star race, there are NO points on the line! It’s all about that $1 million bonus for the winner. This is great news for me—I can’t lose any more ground to you this week!

Leesl: I agree it’s a nice breather for you, but having a 247-point lead is something I’d love to see grow! I’ll just have to hold onto that momentum until we get to the Coke 600.

The Million-Dollar Dash: Who Brings Home the Cash? šŸ’°

  • Andy: Even without the points, we’ve got to call our shots for the million bucks. I’m going with Kyle Larson. He has an incredible history at the Monster Mile, with 9 top 5 finishes in just 17 starts.
  • Leesl: I’m looking at the veteran experience this week. I’m picking Denny Hamlin to take home the check. He knows how to navigate this grind, with 3 career wins and 17 top 20 finishes in 35 races here.

✨ Off-Track Buzz: From the Pits to the Red Carpet:

Leesl: Before we get to our picks, we have to talk about the real “All-Star” move of the week. Did you see Carson Hocevar? He definitely traded his fire suit for high fashion, becoming the first NASCAR driver to hit the Met Gala red carpet since Jeff Gordon. It’s great to see the sport getting some mainstream shine—though I don’t think that outfit would pass tech inspection at Dover!

Andy: I’m still trying to process the contrast, Leesl. One minute he’s the face of Chili’s “Big Smasher” burgers and “Ride the ‘Dente”, and the next he’s walking the red carpet in Christian Dior. I hope he didn’t get any Triple Dipper sauce on that suit—Dior probably isn’t as easy to clean as a firesuit!
