Andy: Coming off a win in Phoenix, my Windy City Racin’ headed to the “Diamond in the Desert” on a high. But as they say, most people leave Vegas with lighter pockets, and that was certainly the case for my team. While my crew struggled to find their rhythm, Lone Star Racin’ hit the jackpot. 🎰
Led by race winner Denny Hamlin, Leesl’ Lone Star team placed four drivers in the top 10, walking away with a decisive 23-point victory. It was a clean, fast-paced race with only 3 cautions and 21 lead changes, and Denny Hamlin was the story of the day, dominating the field by leading 134 of the 267 laps.
Leesl: As we look toward the South Carolina sandhills, our rivalry is heating up. We’re still trading jabs over whether a Dallas Stars deep playoff run is more “fairytale” than a Blackhawks rebuild, and Andy is still trying to convince me that a deep-dish pizza is a better race-day snack than a Texas brisket slider. We’ll have to agree to disagree on the food, but the points standings don’t lie!
Here’s the breakdown of how Vegas went from a gamble to a jackpot:
Snake Eyes for Windy City, 777s for Lone Star!
Andy: I was really hoping to follow the win in Phoenix with another one in Vegas. Unfortunately, the whole team didn’t perform well. Bowman missed another race and Blaney had a disappointing finish for him in 16th. My gamble on the rookie, Connor Zilisch, so far, is not paying off. Hopefully he can improve as the season goes on.
Leesl: Well Andy, they say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and after that dominant run by Denny Hamlin, I’m feeling like the wealthiest gal in the garage! 💎 While your “Windy City” boys were busy searching for their luck at the craps table, this High Rollin’ Honey was busy cashing 777s in Victory Lane. Watching the No. 11 pull away for 134 laps was smoother than a cold draft on a sunny March patio. You can keep your “gambles”—I’ll keep the trophies!
Taming the Lady in Black!
Andy: Time to head to the track that changed everything. Back in 1950, they called this place “Harold’s Folly” because nobody thought stock cars belonged on a paved superspeedway. Harold Brasington proved everyone wrong, though he did have to build that famous “egg shape” just to keep his neighbor’s minnow pond intact! Darlington is where the dirt era ended and real racing began. It’s an old-school brute that rewards patience and punishes ego. Last week was about gambling in Vegas; this week is about respect for the history of the asphalt.
Leesl: A little history lesson is cute, Andy, but “The Lady in Black” doesn’t intimidate this Texas girl. We’re used to things that are a bit wild and “Too Tough to Tame.” While you’re over there sweating about Alex Bowman being sidelined and checking the tread on your tires, I’m looking at a roster of proven winners. My drivers don’t just survive Darlington; they dance with her.
Andy: You can call it a history lesson, but this track has a way of humbling the “High Rollers.” Since this was the first place NASCAR ever ran 500 miles, it’s all about endurance. Missing Bowman for another week is a major blow to my roster’s depth, but Larson, Buescher, and Bell know how to handle an abrasive surface that eats tires for breakfast. They’ve got to be smart, or they’ll be nothing but a footnote in the history books this weekend.
Leesl: You keep worrying about those “Darlington Stripes,” honey. On the Lone Star side, we call those “souvenirs.” With Hamlin’s five career wins here and the grit of Wallace, Byron, and Briscoe, we aren’t driving to avoid the wall—we’re racing to extend this lead.

The Victory Lane Verdict 🏁
Andy: Windy City Racin’, after a very slow start at Daytona and Atlanta, has been better every week and we will continue that at the old-school track in Darlington. I expect my lead drivers to run strong again, but I need a big bounce-back from Blaney to help lead to another win.
Leesl: Andy, hope is a fine sentiment, but experience is what puts you in the winner’s circle. With the momentum from Vegas and my roster’s history at the “Lady in Black,” I’m starting to wonder—is your team parked in the garage, or are they just driving slow on purpose? Because from where I’m sitting, my team is running laps around yours, literally. Taking five out of the first six races isn’t just a hot streak: it’s a Lone Star statement! 🤠
On a final, personal note—as much as I love the trash talk, this Vegas win was special. Seeing Denny Hamlin hit the jackpot after the heartbreaking finale last year and the devastating loss of his father in December was a win for the soul. It was a beautiful moment for his team and his family, and it’s just plain good for the sport to see the No. 11 back where it belongs.
