Welcome back to our Full Flight NBA Report. Whether you’ve been following us or just joining for the first time, we’re glad you’re here!

From the bright lights of the Intuit Dome to the final stretch of a grueling season, the NBA is shifting into high gear. This week, we’re breaking down a revamped All-Star tournament that finally brought the competitive fire back to the floor, and a clash of conference titans in Detroit that feels like a potential Finals preview.

Whether you’re celebrating a three-point record or counting down the days until the Draft Lottery, grab a seat—it’s time for the Full Flight NBA Report.

The Brew View

…three league wide stories we’re sampling this week!

📼 Game of the Week Review: The All-Star Evolution of Stars, Stripes, and Success. The NBA finally found the “secret sauce” for the All-Star Game. This year’s new three-team round-robin tournament (USA Stars, USA Stripes, and Team World) brought the competitive fire back. While the first three games were dogfights, the final came down to an “Old School vs. New School” battle between the two U.S. teams.

The Verdict: The format worked. It was high-stakes, high-energy, and a total blast. Bring it back in 2027!

📡 Game of the Week Preview: OKC @ Detroit (Feb 25th). This isn’t just a national TV game; it’s a potential NBA Finals preview.

  • The Players: Keep your eyes on Cade Cunningham, who dropped a cool 42 points at MSG in his first game back from the break. OKC is dealing with some injury bugs, but they always play up to their competition. This is going to be a heavyweight bout between the league’s youngest, hungriest contenders.
  • The Matchup: We have the #1 seeds from both conferences going head-to-head. Both teams are top 10 in offense and top 3 in defense.

🔦 Featured Player: The 3-Point King – Dame’s Achilles-Defying Win! Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers) continues to prove he’s a different breed. Despite being out for the year with a torn Achilles, “Dame Time” showed up for the 3-Point Contest.

  • The Legend: By defeating a field of active superstars, he secured his 3rd title, tying legends Larry Bird and Craig Hodges for the most wins in history.
  • The Vision: Forget the tournament—next year, we need a 1-on-1 “Winner Takes All” shootout between Steph Curry and Dame. Let’s crown the ultimate king of range once and for all. 👑

The Twin Taps

…two teams in a side-by-side pour – our Mavs & Bulls!

Tap 1. Dallas Mavs: The Flagg Protocol! 🐎

The good news for Mavs fans is that we’ve only lost one game since our last report. The bad news? We’ve only played one game due to the All-Star break! The real concern in Big D is rookie phenom Cooper Flagg, who has been sidelined with a midfoot sprain since Feb 10th. In a season that feels like it’s slipping away, there is no reason to rush the future of our franchise. We need to bring him back slowly and make sure this foot injury doesn’t turn into a long-term problem. For now, the focus is on development and health.

Tap 2. Chicago Bulls: It’s Been A Long February! 🐂

Like the Mavs, my Bulls are firmly in “lost season” territory. We’ve lost all 8 games in February and 11 of our last 12. After a frantic trade deadline that saw us move top scorers like Nikola Vucevic and Coby White, the roster is a total mishmash of new faces. With only 6 players under guaranteed contracts for next year, it’s hard to tell if these guys are playing for the Bulls or just showcasing themselves for their next deal. Between the backcourt logjam and the defensive struggles, it’s getting painful to watch… is it Spring Training yet? ⚾

The Chaser

…one high-proof hot take to finish the round!

Weekly Topic: Is it “Go Time” or “Tank Time”?

Andy: Tanking down the stretch is a terrible look for the league. Teams have an obligation to the fans who pay hard-earned money to see a competitive game. Look at “The Process” in Philly—they lost for years to get back-to-back top picks in 2016 and 2017, and what did it get them? Not a single ring. Losing on purpose is a losing strategy, period.

Leesl: I hear you, Andy, but sometimes you have to play the long game! Look at our teams—the seasons are already lost. Why win a meaningless game in late February and hurt your lottery odds? If you can secure a Top 5 pick to pair with the young talent we already have, you get back to winning sooner. It’s not about losing; it’s about strategically rebuilding!

The Tab 💳

Andy: The All-Star break is officially in the rearview, and for some teams, the “Tanking” season has officially begun. But for the rest of the league, every night now feels like a playoff battle. I’m eager to see if Detroit can hold that #1 seed against the OKC surge this Tuesday.

Leesl: It’s the home stretch! Whether you’re rooting for the top of the lottery or the top of the conference, the energy is shifting. We’ll be watching the Cooper Flagg injury report 🩹closely and hoping for a Dallas turnaround, but in the meantime, we want to hear from you.

Your Round:

  • Tanking vs. Trying: Does your team owe it to you to lose for a better pick, or do you want to see them compete until the final buzzer?
  • The Steph vs. Dame Shootout: Who wins that winner-takes-all battle?
  • Game of the Week: Give us your score prediction for OKC @ Detroit!

Cheers, Leesl & Andy 🍻
