Our Picks are IN!

👋 Welcome Back to the Gridiron Tension!

Leesl: Well, Hello Playbook readers! Yes, the scoreboard shows me down 3 games to Andy, with the playoff picture coming into focus. I won’t lie, last week’s picks were about as effective as a Hail Mary on 1st down, and that stings. But listen up, Andy: you know what they say about folks from Texas—we don’t quit, sugar! A 3-game deficit in Week 14 is nothing a little calculated aggression can’t fix. Andy might be nursing a comfortable lead right now, but he’s about to find out that when you’re cornered, you swing for the fences. Consider this my official declaration of war: I’m throwing out the spreadsheet and taking some smart, high value risks this week. Bless your heart, Andy, hope you enjoyed that lead while it lasted because the Pint is coming for the Playbook.

Andy: The scoreboard is a beautiful thing, isn’t it? As Leesl eloquently mentioned—and with a little extra y’all on it this week—she’s currently trailing by a tidy three games, a gap that, statistically speaking, is becoming harder to close than a Super Bowl-bound defense. While Leesl is down there talking about Texas grit and ‘calculated aggression,’ I hear a desperate gambler reaching for the nearest underdog. She’s putting on a show, but I’m from Chicago, we deal in cold, hard facts, not flowery speeches. I’ve built this lead on solid football analysis—something that seems to have completely evaded my opponent. I’ll be sticking to the fundamentals this week while Leesl chases ghosts. Remember, there’s a difference between making a risky pick and making a wrong pick. I’m just here to gently widen the gap and keep my title as the undisputed champion of The Pint and the Playbook.

1. The Home-Team Blindness (Packers vs. Bears)

Leesl: Andy, you’re letting your Chicago allegiance turn the Playbook into a fantasy novel. You’re picking the Bears against the heavily favored Packers? This is the clearest pick on the board! Green Bay simply does not turn the ball over, which is the only way your Bears can win. This is a game where I lock in the easy win and I gain a game on you, guaranteed.

Andy: We’ll see who’s laughing when the Monsters of the Midway feast on turnovers!

  • Leesl’s Pick: Green Bay Packers
2. The Name-Brand Trap (Chiefs vs. Texans & Colts vs. Jaguars)

Leesl: You’re betting on the Chiefs and the Colts based on their name recognition, and I’m betting on reality—teams that are healthier and playing better football right now.

Chiefs vs. Texans: You’re trusting Patrick Mahomes to overcome a battered offensive line against the relentless pass rush of the Houston Texans. I am taking the Texans, because up here in the real world, defense still beats a banged-up offense.

Andy: It’s Mahomes, Leesl. Never bet against the greatest!

  • Leesl’s Pick: Houston Texans

Colts vs. Jaguars: I’m sorry, Andy, did you see the injury report? The Jaguars are playing at home, trending up, and they are facing a Colts team with key injuries in the secondary. This isn’t a risky pick; it’s just smart. You fell for the slight favorite; I took the informed edge.

Andy: Colts always play up in division games. The Jags are overrated.

  • Leesl’s Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars
3. The Family Bet (Cowboys vs. Lions)

Leesl: Of course, you took the Lions, a team in your division, Andy. But what about the facts? My Dallas Cowboys are rolling, and the Lions are dealing with critical injuries, especially to their star wide receiver and offensive line. I’m taking my team because the data supports the upset. You’re counting on Detroit pride; I’m counting on Dallas momentum.

Andy: Home field, division game, and the Cowboys always play ‘all hat and no cattle’ in December. Easy pick!

  • Leesl’s Pick: Dallas Cowboys

The Final Score!

Andy: She calls her aggressive picks the ‘Lone Star Showdown’, but Leesl, it’s Week 14, not the O.K. Corral! Another desperate strategy that involves four huge, unnecessary risks this week. I am confident my picks—built on solid analysis, not Texas swagger—will hold the lead and officially widen this 3-game gap.

Leesl: Well, I reckon we’ll see about that! 👢
