Between a heart-stopping Longhorn survival, a big Irish win that somehow left Andy shaking his head, and Lone Star Racin’ clinging to a NASCAR leaderboard lead while his driver took victory lane, we’ve got plenty to hash out over a cold one. Welcome back to Pitstops, Pigskins, and Pitching Meltdowns!
1. Pit Stops: On the Road to The Gateway City 🏎️
Andy: The NASCAR playoff points reset is a beautiful thing. Instead of staring up an 820-point mountain, Windy City Racin’ cut that deficit down overnight—and then we went out and won Darlington with Christopher Bell! Just like that, we shaved almost 100 points off the lead in a single week. The momentum has officially shifted, and now we’re rolling into St. Louis down by just 81 points!
Leesl: Let’s not get carried away, Andy! You’re celebrating two wins in two months like you just took the trophy home… and you’re still looking up at Lone Star Racin’ in the standings. Even on an off week where Hamlin and Byron had bad luck, my team still landed six drivers in the top 11. But congratulations on cutting into the lead—enjoy it while it lasts. Break down Gateway for us before I expand my lead again.
Andy: Hey, call it two wins in two months all you want, but math is math—81 points is a drop in the bucket with nine races left, and your top-10 stack didn’t put a trophy in the garage last week! Bell did. You can feel that pressure mounting from the backseat, can’t you?
And Gateway is going to keep that pressure on. It’s a totally different beast than historic Darlington—a flat 1.25-mile oval with asymmetrical turns that make it handle more like a road course. It’s tight, tricky, and rewards precision over raw horsepower. Christopher Bell and Ryan Blaney have already figured this place out. I’m riding the hot hand—give me Bell to make it two in a row!
Leesl: Dream on. Lone Star Racin’ is due for a sweep, and Gateway is Joey Logano’s playground. He’s sitting on the pole, and with six of my drivers starting in the top 10, the math is heavily in my favor. You can take Bell; I’ll take Logano to grab his second St. Louis trophy and put some real distance back on this scoreboard.

2. Pitching Meltdowns: Scuffling to the Finish ⚾
Andy’s Take (Chicago White Sox)
Last week we called this a “diamond rivalry”… not sure we can do that this week considering neither of our teams is actually playing good baseball. Truthfully, it just feels like a race to see who can stumble across the finish line. Going 1–4 with only 31 total hits over five games is brutal to watch – our starting pitching is faltering, and that division lead is down to a razor-thin 1.5 games. Heading into Cleveland next week with 13 games left makes me nervous. This young team needs to stop waiting for things to turn around and dig deep before it’s too late.
Leesl’s Take (Texas Rangers)
You’re right, Andy—the only real rivalry here is figuring out whose team is messing up more! I’m right there in the same boat with you. Going 2–3 this week and watching this Rangers squad lately has been frustrating. It’s always something different every night: if the pitching steps up, the offense disappears, and if the bats finally wake up, the bullpen lets it slip away. Sitting two games back of the Wild Card with 13 to go means the door is wide open—they just need to dig down, find that missing spark, and give us something to root for down the stretch!

3. Pigskins: A Tale of Two Wins 🏈
Andy’s Team – Notre Dame! Look, hanging 52 points on the board looks great on paper, but when you’re ranked in the Top 5, beating up on lightweight opponents doesn’t prove anything. Coasting through blowout wins doesn’t build a championship team—it just hides your weaknesses. I want to see what Notre Dame actually does when someone punches back. At least down in Austin, you found out how Texas handles adversity, right Leesl? Go Irish! ☘️
Leesl’s Team – Texas Longhorns! Be careful what you wish for, Andy! Sitting through three quarters of ugly football against Ohio State wasn’t some fun experiment—I was so frustrated by the 4th quarter I literally walked away from the TV. Yeah, they dug deep and pulled off the win, and it showed they won’t just fold when things go wrong. But I’m not sitting here pretending all our problems are solved. Great teams don’t fall behind 23–3 in the first place! It was a gut-check win, sure, but it raised just as many questions for me as it answered. I’ll take the W, but I’d prefer we don’t make trailing by 20 a habit. Hook ’em Horns! 🤘
