The Week That Was in Dallas & Chicago!
Welcome to the weekly showdown! I’m Leesl (the Dallas devotee) and my husband Andy (the Chicago loyalist) and we go head-to-head every week to see which of our home cities truly reigns in sports. It’s more than just a blog series—it’s a battle for the ultimate gloating license in our house. 🏠
This week, the atmosphere in our house couldn’t be more polarized: Chicago is currently riding a “Team of Destiny” playoff high, while Dallas is stuck in a cycle of coaching changes and nursing a very crowded injury list.
Let’s see who truly reigned in sports this week! 👑
🏈 Gridiron Glory (NFL)
D-TOWN: Dallas Cowboys
Leesl: We finally fired DC Matt Eberflus after a season where the defense allowed nearly 30 points per game—the worst in franchise history. Jerry Jones is promising “dramatic changes,” but the reality is we are currently $34 million over the salary cap and facing a massive roster purge just to keep the lights on. We’re currently interviewing for our fourth defensive coordinator in four years, hoping someone—anyone—can fix a unit that ranked 31st in the league. And that’s the good news.
Record: 7-9-1
CHI-TOWN: Chicago Bears
Andy: Saturday night against the Packers was, quite simply, one of the most unbelievable wins I’ve seen in my life. Looking dead in the water at halftime down 21-3, the defense slammed the door in the 3rd. Then, the unthinkable: a 25-point explosion in the 4th quarter to steal an improbable victory. We’re marching into the Divisional Round against the Rams with a 12-6 record and all the momentum in the world. Now that’s how you start a postseason!
Record: 12-6-0
🏀 Hoops Heat (NBA)
D-TOWN: Dallas Mavericks
Leesl: This was a brutal week, regardless of the final scores. The injury bug isn’t just biting; it’s moving in. AD is out again, and with a 6-week finger injury, any hope of a deadline trade has likely evaporated. Cooper Flagg is playing like a superstar most nights, but he’s carrying the world on his shoulders and is now day-to-day after a scary ankle sprain. At this point, we’re just trying to keep the wheels from falling off.
Record: 16-26
CHI-TOWN: Chicago Bulls
Andy: A bit of a “slip and slide” week, going 1-2. We actually had a game postponed because the United Center was literally sweating—excessive condensation from the ice under the floor (only in Chicago does a “warm day” cancel a basketball game). The silver lining? An 18-point blowout against Leesl’s Mavericks, which I absolutely loved. Josh Giddey is still sidelined, but Nikola Vučević has been a titan in the paint.
Record: 19-22
🏒 Blade Battles (NHL)
D-TOWN: Dallas Stars
Leesl: Our Road Warriors had a rocky 1-2 trip. The defensive lapses are becoming a pattern, leaving our netminders hung out to dry against high-danger chances. We’re 4th in goals per game but 25th in shots—we’re efficient, but we aren’t dominant. With the Olympic break condensing the schedule, we have to tighten up the blue line now if we want a deep playoff run.
Record: 27-12-9
CHI-TOWN: Chicago Blackhawks
Andy: A solid 3-1 stretch! Beating Vegas was the crown jewel, featuring a Tyler Bertuzzi hat trick. We got Connor Bedard back for a fleeting moment before the team-wide flu bug got him. The record sits at 19-21-7, but the math is concerning: we’re 30th in shots on goal while giving up the 6th most. We’re surviving, but we need to start attacking.
Record: 19-21-7
🎤 And, that’s that…
Winner of the Week: Chicago
Andy’s Take: The Victory Lap! I’m not saying a playoff win against the Packers is an automatic win for the week… actually, wait, that’s exactly what I’m saying. Saturday night was the kind of game that cures all other sports ails. Watching the Bears climb out of that 21-3 hole while the Bulls were literally sliding around a ‘sweaty’ United Center floor? That’s peak Chicago sports. We’re moving on to the Divisional Round, we owned the Mavericks on the hardwood, and the Blackhawks are showing some grit. In my book, this isn’t just a win—it’s a Chi-Town takeover. 🥳🙌🎊
Leesl’s Concession: The Reign of Chi-Town! I’ll say it, but I won’t like it: Chicago takes the crown again this week. While Dallas is busy reshuffling coaching headsets and checking the structural integrity of our ankles, Andy is riding a playoff high that’s hard to beat. There is a certain magic to a 4th-quarter comeback against a bitter rival—I’ve heard legends about it from the 90s, at least. Enjoy the spotlight, Chi-Town, but don’t get too comfortable.
Your Turn! 👇
Join the Showdown!
Now it’s your turn to settle the score: Does a playoff win over a legendary rival like the Packers give Andy an automatic “Weekly Reign,” or should the Mavs’ injury woes and the Cowboys’ front-office drama earn Leesl some sympathy points?
